WORKSHOP MAKE & DYE A KIMONO - 1 MAR
THE DESIGN PROCESS We’ll begin the day by focusing fully on creating your kimono. With your own creative input, you can give your design a personal touch by making small adjustments, for example, altering the length of the kimono, as long as these are achievable within the available time and range of skills. During the workshop, you’ll learn essential skills from the craft of garment making: from drafting and shaping patterns to sewing and finishing your kimono. I’ll guide you step by step through the process so that together we can bring your unique creation to life. SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS Your kimono will be made from 100% organic, undyed raw cotton. 2m of this fabric is included in the price. An additional fee €7 per meter applies for more fabric. NATURAL DYEING After a homemade vegetarian lunch, I’ll take you on an inspiring journey into the colors of nature. Together, we’ll go step by step through the natural dyeing process to bring your kimono to life with botanical ingredients. You’ll discover which plants create specific colors and how different mordants and techniques can shift tones and shades. You’ll also learn traditional dyeing techniques, such as Japanese Shibori, to create beautiful, organic patterns, making your kimono truly one of a kind. WHAT'S INCLUDED - 2m of fabric, interfacing and natural dye ingredients needed (colours/mordants/modifiers) - Natural dyeing shibori tools - Printed sewing and natural dyeing instructions - A homemade vegetarian lunch, coffee/tea and snacks PRACTICAL INFORMATION The workshop is from 10:00 till 17:00 in my atelier in Rotterdam. Maximum 4 people can attend this workshop so you will have enough space to work on your kimono. A lunchbreak with a homemade vegetarian lunch is included.
