YUTORI ゆとり
For my new collection, I wanted to reflect on what it truly means to me to create naturally dyed garments by hand. Throughout every stage of my slow-fashion process from dreaming to designing, from constructing to bringing each piece to life, there’s one essential element that continues to shape it all:
Time. Not just in hours or days, but in the deeper sense of allowing space.
The freedom to create at my own rhythm, in harmony with nature’s pace. It’s within this spaciousness that each piece is organically brought into being.
When I came across this Japanese philosophy of time, it really resonates with the way I like to create. The word Yutori (ゆとり) comes from the verb yutoru, which means “to be spacious” or “to have room.” It refers to having enough time and peace of mind to actually enjoy and appreciate the beauty of nature and life, without constently being rushed or feeling trapped by rthe weight of stress.
To me, it connects beautifully with the concept of Ikigai. It’s about creating space and balance in life, in work, and in the way we create.
When we slow down and let go of the rush, we create room for something meaningful to unfold naturally. Which allows us to focus on what truly matters and brings us joy.
My new creations are shaped by that same flow. Slow, intentional, and in tune with nature. I hope they bring a sense of calm and spaciousness to whoever wears them, like a little reminder of what Yutori is all about.
