BETULA SPP. - BIRCH LEAVES
Birch leaves are a beautiful source of natural yellow and soft green dyes, especially when harvested in spring or early summer. Rich in tannins and flavonoids, they bond well with natural fibers and can produce surprisingly vibrant hues. Their delicate scent and subtle colors bring a gentle woodland essence to dyed textiles.
Natural dyes are vibrant colour pigments derived from plants, flowers, herbs, minerals, and other natural sources. Unlike synthetic dyes, they are eco-friendly and connect us to ancient, sustainable textile traditions.
The process of dyeing with natural materials is slow and mindful process. Each step, from preparing the fabric to extracting colour and applying it, requires time, patience, and care. This deliberate pace ensures every piece is unique, with subtle variations that reflect the beauty of nature. Natural dyes are "living colors," which means they may evolve, change, or gently fade over time. This natural process makes them special and requires to treat them with a lot of love and care.
To care for naturally dyed items:
- Hand wash in cold water with mild, pH-neutral soap.
- Keep them out of direct sunlight when not wearing them.
- Don't use too much heat when ironing. Iron inside out.
