HAEMATOXYLUM CAMPECHIANUM - LOG WOOD
Logwood chips come from the heartwood of the Haematoxylum campechianum tree and have been used as a natural dye since the 16th century. They produce deep purples, greys, and even blacks, depending on the mordant used, and are especially known for their rich, cool tones. Logwood is a popular choice in natural dyeing for its intensity and beautiful range of hues.
Natural dyes are vibrant colour pigments derived from plants, flowers, herbs, minerals, and other natural sources. Unlike synthetic dyes, they are eco-friendly and connect us to ancient, sustainable textile traditions.
The process of dyeing with natural materials is slow and mindful process. Each step, from preparing the fabric to extracting colour and applying it, requires time, patience, and care. This deliberate pace ensures every piece is unique, with subtle variations that reflect the beauty of nature. Natural dyes are "living colors," which means they may evolve, change, or gently fade over time. This natural process makes them special and requires to treat them with a lot of love and care.
To care for naturally dyed items:
- Hand wash in cold water with mild, pH-neutral soap.
- Keep them out of direct sunlight when not wearing them.
- Don't use too much heat when ironing. Iron inside out.
