Service Description

MAKE IT, DYE IT & WEAR YOUR OWN ART PLEASE NOTE: Basic sewing skills are required. If you’re new to sewing but would love to join, please contact me before booking. At IKIGAIA, we believe in taking time to create. That’s why this workshop takes place over 3 Sunday sessions, giving you the space to enjoy the process, work at your own pace, and create your garment with care and attention. DAY 1 & 2 — DESIGN & SEWING Learn the essentials of garment making, including measuring, pattern work, cutting, sewing and finishing. Choose from three basic IKIGAIA designs: - Wrap skirt (level 1) - Kimono with belt (level 2) - Slip dress (level 3) Your design can be personalised in length, depending on your experience and what can be achieved within the workshop timeframe. FABRICS Choose from a selection of consciously sourced fabrics: - Organic, handwoven Kala cotton - Plantbased Lotus silk - Organic Himalayan Hemp 1.5 m of fabric is included. Additional fabric can be purchased per metre, depending on the fabric type. Handmade recycled glass and brass beads are available to purchase separately in the studio. DAY 3 — NATURAL DYEING Discover the art of natural dyeing and learn how plants, mordants and pH modifiers create different colours and depths. While your garment is prepared in a mordant bath, you’ll experiment with Japanese Shibori techniques to create unique patterns. You’ll then apply your chosen dyeing technique to your garment and reveal the final colours.
